Today I woke up and felt meh.

The brain was throwing everything at me. Eat better. Exercise. Lose weight. Take your vitamins. Downsize. Clean the house. Replace retirement income. Finalize the Europe trip. Buy clothes for the trip because you’ve put on weight.

The list goes on.

I just sat on the couch for a bit, then finally got up and cleaned the kitchen. I took Blinky (my sourdough starter) out of the fridge. Amazingly, he started to rise without another feeding.

One action then led to another.

I decided to make a croissant sourdough bread. The day was taking a turn.

There is something about making sourdough. Mix it together and leave it. I could sit on my butt again and do nothing. 🤣

The thing was, though, when I used Blinky for the bread, there was “nothing” left!

First thought: OMG, I killed Blinky. 😭

All that was left were scrapings around the jar. What was I going to do?

Well, I think I managed to revive Blinky. I fed the little scrapings that were left and hoped for the best.

It worked!

There were a few lessons for me today.

  1. Let the brain spiral. It doesn’t mean everything it’s saying requires action right now.
  2. One small action can lead to another. Momentum is a funny thing. 🤣
  3. You don’t need to worry about using all your starter. Apparently, the scrapings left in the jar can be enough.
  4. A rough start to the day does not mean the whole day will be rough.

Today was a good day.

I didn’t fix everything my brain told me I needed to fix. Some of those things probably do need my attention. Just not all today.

Once I accepted that, the pressure shifted.

I also started going down rabbit holes… but I will leave that for another day. 🐇🕳️

Today started out tough, but look at this croissant sourdough bread.

I accomplished something.

Have there been times when you can’t stop thinking about everything you’re doing wrong or everything you need to do? How did you break that cycle?

I wrote it down.

Then my day shifted.

Strange, that.

I certainly understand a brain that’s spiraling! Took me a long time to realize that it’s not the boss of me! It can be such a cruel task master.
    😝.
